New York
Fashion week is a week-long event where designers present their work in a fashion show. In one year it’s divided into 2 seasons, S/S and F/W. The current major fashion week is the Golden fashion week, which goes in the order of New York, London, Milan and Paris. “Although these are the four most established, there are numerous smaller fashion events around the world”(http://en.Wilkipedia.org). Before New York Fashion Week was the last of other countries; however, the Vogue editor Anna Wintour wanted to see New York Fashion Week first. So, now New York Fashion Week is before other countries. American fashion didn’t get much publicity, “Fashion magazines like Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar filled their pages with the aspirational attire of the French, even if the styles weren’t readily available to the average American consumer”(http://newsfeed.time.com). In 1943, the fashion publisher Eleanor Lambert organized the first ‘Press Week’ to introduce New York fashion. Up to 2010 the ‘New York Fashion Week’ was held at the Bryant Park, now it is held at the Lincoln Park. The ‘New York Fashion Week’ is also known as the ‘Mercedes-Benz Week’, due to the fact that Mercedes-Benz is their biggest sponsor. The ‘New York Fashion Week’ usually introduces widely known brands. It pursues practical, realistic designs, and active comfortable fashion trends. People can say that it is the leader of the modern, city image trend.
London
This story is about fashion week in London. “London Fashion Week is a clothing trade show held in London twice each year, in February and September”(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/London_Fashion_Week). It is famous as big four fashion weeks with New York, Paris and Milan. Once upon a time, London wanted to hold fashion week like Paris because London was interested in fashion, but London did not have enough funds for the event. So, the British Fashion Council worked hard to get an official sponsorship from automobile brand and hairdressing company. Then, London Fashion Week was started in 1984 for the first time. Many people in the world visited London and enjoyed that event. It helped London create profits. “It states that it is attended by over 5,000 press and buyers, and has estimated orders of £40 million[6] or £100 million”(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/London_Fashion_Week). We can see catwalk show by well-known and various designers. I am interested in fashion at ordinary time, so I want to watch London Fashion Week. It is surprising to admire many different designer clothing and models.
Paris
Paris Fashion Week is one of the most popular fashion week. “Fashion show is open twice a year divided S/S, F/W season”(ko.wikipedia.org/wiki/패션쇼). At this time many celebrities visit and for a certain period of time famous designers participate in presenting their brand of clothes. There are many artistic rather than practical costumes. “Paris Fashion Week, for a long time has been the leader the world of fashion because it has great influence and strong designers”(http://www.joinsmediacanada.com). The city is full of art and features artistic freedom, so I attach importance to creativity. Paris clothes are queer, this means Paris collection is innovative. After Fashion Week many photographers wait because models and other participants take photo’s and then they upload fashion connection to a website. These fashion shows are easily accessed on the internet. I think Paris Fashion Week has grown thanks to these designers Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior, Coco Chanel, Jean Paul Gaultier, Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Cardin.
New York Fashion Week Comparison to Paris Fashion Week
Fashion Week is like a preview of that years fashion trends. I believe that fashion weeks are an opportunity for new designers and a new inspiration for the existent designers. The ‘New York Fashion Week’ is the most active fashion weeks. You can say that ‘Paris Fashion Week’ is more glamorous, historical and artistic, while New York’s is more of representative of the simple and youth. Though I have never witnessed it personally, fashion is closely related to our lives, I believe it requires great attention and constant effort for advancement.
London Fashion Week Comparison to Seoul Fashion Week
I would like compare Seoul Fashion Week with London Fashion Week. London Fashion Week is more famous than Seoul because London is big four fashion week in the world. In my opinion, Seoul is more attractive than London. Models of Seoul are much more charming than London. I like that they have an oriental face and western figure. I hope Seoul Fashion Week is the best in the future.
Paris Fashion Week Comparison to New York and Milano Fashion Week
I read about the other Fashion Week, and they are beautiful and exciting. However, I think that the Paris in Fashion Week is better than New York and Milano Fashion Week because it is the most influential and unique. Currently, It is one of the biggest fashion shows and oldest. Most of Paris designers make ingenious and creative clothes. To go to this show an invitations is needed, but I hope to see the show one day.
